Classroom Superheroes — Online Exchange Program


Overseeing a constantly fluctuating classroom environment is one of the major challenges English Language Teachers are facing and mastering despite the global events & tumultuous circumstances since February 24.  

America House Odesa is launching Classroom Superheroes — a virtual professional development and exchange program for Ukrainian English Language Teachers facilitated by American and Ukrainian experts under a general motif of ‘teaching during wartime.’

Together with a diverse cohort and experts in the fields of English Teaching Practices and Mental Health, program participants will dive deep into reflective behind the scenes of education program making. Are you ready to embark on a transformative journey? 

Over the course of three weeks:  

  • Take part in 5 online sessions with Mental Health & Education experts; 

  • Engage in a safe virtual space for ELT professionals to share joint struggles and victories (expanding your network & becoming part of a new professional community); 

  • Receive mentorship, support & effective feedback on how to design educational programming; 

  • Acquire new skills, tools, ideas & techniques for Education in Emergencies, Assessment practices & Resilience building. 

Who can apply?
We are looking for young professionals from Ukraine, passionate about English Language Teaching, willing to enhance their educational program design skills & explore the role of English learning in building up of resilience of individuals.

The program will be made up of the following activities: 

  • September 19, 6:00 – 8:00 PM (GMT +3) | Program opening: “Classroom superheroes: Edutainment for a Social Cause” Workshop & Networking facilitated by an ELT expert.  

  • September 22, 6:00 – 7:30 PM (GMT +3) | Virtual workshop "Education in Emergencies" with America House’s English Language Resident 

  • September 27, 7:00 – 9:00 PM (GMT +3) | Virtual workshop "Trauma-Informed Teaching". Overview session facilitated by a professional psychologist from USA 

  • September 30, 3 hours | Two-part virtual workshop on "Tracking Progress" with two invited speakers & facilitators on the role of assessment in education practice & giving effective feedback. 

  • October 3, 2.5 hours | “Farewell Party” is dedicated to marking the finale of the program, reviewing the work done, and celebrating it. It includes presentation of final projects, reception of the feedback from facilitators & networking session. 

The commitment would be 5 general sessions, each 1.5-3 hours. No more than 11 hours over three weeks.  

To participate in the program, please register by submitting the application form by 11:59 PM Kyiv time (GMT+3), Sunday September 11. No preparation is required, discussion topics will be provided. Participation in the program is free of charge. The working languages of the program will be English & Ukrainian. Applications are open nationally with preference given to participants from Odesa region.
